Delayed Reaction

I homeschool six of my children. At one Elisabeth isn't ready to jump into the fray yet. The last two weeks they have all been suffering from a potent case of the flu. In an effort to hold the restlessness at bay I have continued to do little bits of stuff here and there when the kids were awake, however, they have not necessarily been alert. Last Friday I was teaching three year old Samuel about Saul. As we usually do, at dinner that night we were sharing with Pa what the kids had learned in school today. I asked Samuel to tell who Saul was. He said, "UMMMM, I forget." I tried to prompt him with questions but he just kept looking at me as if he'd never heard the name before. I told him we'd have to learn about Saul again on Monday and we moved on.

Move ahead two days to Sunday morning. We were sitting in our worship service and the Pastor mentioned Paul. It was as if lightening struck. Samuel yells out, "Paul, that's who I learned about in school!" Talk about delayed reaction...Thank God we were sitting in overflow!

I am joining Rachel at Once Upon a Miracle for her True Story Tuesday. This week I am featuring a post from last year that still tickles my funny bone.

  1. My kids are always surprising me with what they remember, long after the fact! It's funny how their little minds work.

  2. That is too cute! And, wow! Impressed with you... homeschooling 6 kids. I'm only doing 2 right now and feel like I can't keep up with everything! :)

  3. Hooray for homeschooling (my first visit here) we are considering the plunge. I love this story! I teach sunday school at our church and have similar conversations at our dinner table - it kills me (sometimes with laughter and the rest with exasperation).

  5. That's funny. My grandpa always said you couldn't tell my mom or grandma a joke on Thursday because they would laugh in church. I think that applies here haha!!

  6. LOL - that is so hilarious. You just never know where kids file those pieces of information for later use!
