Rainy Sunday Thoughts

It has been raining and overcast here since Wednesday. Can you imagine? And the forecast is for more rain until at least next Wednesday! I am beginning to feel like we live in Seattle. And I've never even been to Seattle.

I am a fair weather exerciser. I don't walk, run, jog or take part in any other outdoor activity if it is cold or raining. Since, winter is still fighting to hang on and the rainy season has set in...I took desperate measures.

I've been reading about this new exercise video on Big Mama's blog by Jillian Michael's called the 30 Day Shred. I ordered it 2 day express shipping from Amazon prime. I should have gone for the parcel post. It arrived in Saturday morning's mail. After one work out Brianna and I have renamed it the 30 Day Burn.

Burn it does. I am an avid exerciser. In a typical week I exercise in some form six days. I have been doing aerobics, biking, running, power walking, strength training, circuit training, you name it...rather faithfully for at least 20 years. For the last 4 years I have been to the gym 3-6 days a week. Because of circumstances, I have been on a 4 week hiatus but...I am considered in rather good physical condition and that break should not have accounted for the amount of sweating and huffing and puffing in our family room.

There are 3 levels to this video. I opted to take the recommendation and start on Level 1. But really I was wondering how hard can it be? Big Mama must have been blowing it out of proportion when she described the torture involved. At Amazon, the demo showed jumping jacks and push ups. Kids stuff, right?

I was in no way prepared for the burn in every muscle of my body. It took us 20 minutes to work out and an hour to get the strength to get off the couch afterward.

My family is so supportive. Samuel pulled over a bar stool and sat down to watch us. He was so amused you would have thought Thomas the Tank was playing.

Today was easier. We were able to get right up and shower at the end. And because misery loves company...we convinced hubby and KK to do it, too.

Seriously, check it out. It's only $8.99 right now on and if you are a prime member, two day shipping is free. What do you have to lose? Twenty minutes a day and the cost of 2 lattes? Let me know if you give it a try. We can count down together.

  1. Well, I've heard a lot about it and had to check it out too. I've put a bid on it at ebay. We'll see if I win. If not, I might stop over at Amazon. I'll let you know when I get it and try it.

  2. I bought it Thursday at Target. Did day 1 on Friday. Thought I would die. Walked 2 miles on Saturday. Took Sunday off. I will do day 2 today. I know push ups sound like kids stuff but when you haven't done one since you were a kid they suddenly become RIDICULOUSLY HARD!! :)

  3. It's always more fun to be miserable with someone else when exercising. :) Sounds like y'all will have a great time doing it all together.
