Not Me Monday 7-6-09

This week, I did NOT let my daughter teach all the children how to make mini bow and arrows out of Bic pens. And I did NOT let them shoot them all over the house and yard...using the ink cartridges as arrows. I would NOT let them do something that might blind one of them. NO WAY! My super safety conscious mother taught me way better than to let children do something so dangerous.

And I did NOT tell my husband how good it was for them to use their minds in creative ways, when he complained about NOT being able to find a pen with ink still in it.

Nor did I look the other way, when I saw Elisabeth pick up an animal cracker off the ground and stick it in her mouth. I certainly did NOT reason with myself that there was NO point in making her scream and putting my fingers at risk by reaching in her mouth and pulling it out. I NEVER would think since her mouth had already made contact with it anyway that no more harm could be done. And it NEVER occurred to me that very animal cracker must have been from the day before when the boys had animal crackers as a snack by the pool. NEVER did I think about the fact that it had rained that very morning so it must have been soggy, too. NO good health conscious mother would let her child be at risk for some God awful disease by allowing a baby do such a thing.

And when we were by the pool... and the boys were changing their clothes for lunch...and their swim trunks were off... but they were taking a LONG time putting their shorts back on... I would deny ever saying, "You had better hurry up or you will get sunburn on your dinky." And the boys NEVER would have replied, "That's OK, Mama, we're not too worried about sunburn on our dinkies."

And when we were at a picnic on July 4th and the baby was fussy and feeling bad and refusing to eat, I did NOT suggest her Pa feed her some of Nana's cake to make her happy. Because he definitely would NEVER be the one to say, "Feed the baby cake? Are you crazy?"

And, even though, all the kids woke up Sunday morning sick with sore throats, runny noses and coughs, I did NOT make them do three takes of Aunt Diann's birthday tribute to make sure we got it right. That would NOT be a very compassionate mother. And when we had an almost perfect take, I was NOT the one who messed it up by forgetting the very last line to the song.

Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.

  1. lol...sounds like stuff that would happen at my house. And that reminds me, I need to go listen to your song. :) I was up late last night and turned the sound off on the 'puter lest I wake up the kiddos.

  2. Kat, Thank you so much for stopping by my blog and meeting me. I was glad to return the visit. Your sweet comments on my post were a delight to me. I was ministered to also when you wrote about how my little conversation with God actually spoke so much to you as well.

Your family is beautiful and I would love to continue to get to know you more. I plan to return and visit some more if that is ok.

I am glad you came by from Hope's. I like her a lot too!

  3. Mom,
You have to admit the pens were fun...and safer than the real bow and arrow, right?
Don't feel bad about the cake, I almost gave a peice of chemicle filled goodness to her, just so she would stop crying. What would the Master say if she found out! YIKES!;)
    Love Ya,

  4. My boys would love to have Bic pens made into bows and arrows! Like you said...think of all they could learn. ;o)
