I Bet You Were Wondering What Happened to Me!

And then again, maybe not! Truth is, I stayed up too late Friday night. And way too late Saturday night. By the time I got home Sunday night, I was sick from lack of sleep. Do you remember when you could stay up all night and go for days without sleep and it didn't affect you at all? I do. And it seems so long ago!

I was all set to fall into bed for a good long sleep. But around 10 on Sunday night we got a call that a very special friend of ours is in the ICU and unresponsive. That combined with being too tired, kept me awake most of the night on Sunday.

But, I had to do all the canning that I blew off over the weekend. So, it was up and moving first thing Monday morning. We put up 3 bushels of peaches. I was so tired by the time I got to the fourth case, I was offering the kids a prize to the one who could eat the most peaches.

I normally enjoy canning but I had a rather bad attitude about it, on account of when I am too tired, I have a bad attitude about everything. The last half hour or so, my girls offered to finish up so I could lay down for a few minutes. Which is right about when my dear husband got home.

I somehow got the family to the library for our regular Monday night visit and put dinner on the table. But by 7:30 I was done for. For the first time that I can remember in at least 13 years, I left the dirty dishes and the kids at the table and crawled into bed.

But here's the thing. Our house is just the right size for us, but it is small. And not much happens that you can't hear in my bedroom. Even with the door closed and a pillow over my head, I heard the cleaning up, and the bathing, and the teeth brushing. And I couldn't go to sleep. I finally had to get up at 9 and kiss everyone goodnight and thank my darling for taking care of things for me.

Then I got back into bed and read for a few minutes. I am feeling much more myself today but didn't have time to post because after spending the weekend away and yesterday in the kitchen, my heart was longing to spend a little time doing nothing with the kids.

I will be stopping by to catch up on your blogs in the next day or so. As soon as I catch up on my posting that is!

  3. Wow, what a weekend. I've actually had one of those myself this weekend. Time to catch up tomorrow. When our kids were little I used to can all those peaches too. They sure taste great in the winter.

  4. Kat,

Oh how I would just love to sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee with you and have some of those golden beautiful peaches. YUMMM!

I wish we could all get together and just have a good old fashioned county fair with all the goodies people make from scratch, can, and even the crafts that others sew, knit or even photograph. It would be an all time event of a life time. Bloggers County Fair.

Don't you just hate it when your tired and cranky and don't want to be but are???

    Love and Hugs ~ Kat

  5. Great job on the canning. I totally relate to hearing everything that's going on. It's not so bad now, 'cause we have fans going in the windows (central ac is way too much) and it kind of drowns out the other sounds. But if it's winter, I can hear a whisper on the other side of the house!
Well I just sent you a looong email and said I was going to bed and I am! Really!

  6. This so takes me back in time! Remembering helping my Mema in the garden during the summers. She canned everything! I mean we had black eyed peas fo eva! my favorite thing she made was fig preserves. They were just the best, on and her buttermilk pancakes. Older generations just knew how to cook.

Found your blog thru Jules. So glad I did! Im following you now.

Please feel free to stop by The Fort anytime, you are always welcome!

    Love and Prayers,

    Tim
