What is it?

This little fellow showed up at our pool three weeks ago.  At first we thought he was a hummer.  He stayed around for a long time and when we finally got a closer look we realized not only wasn't he a humming bird, but we have never seen anything like him before.  We searched out bug and bird resources.  Every time we have been in the pool since, he has stopped by to feed at my petunias.  We'd love to know what he is.  Do you have a clue?
