The Girls' Party

Each Christmas season, my girls host a party.  They invite the girls from church, young ladies in our neighborhood and their friends from out in the community.  The boys call it, "The girls' party" because it is the only thing throughout the year that they don't all do together.  Usually, Allen does something special like eat junk food and watch a video with the boys upstairs.

Over the years there have been lots of different themes.  One year everyone spent the day baking.  Another year, was a cookie exchange.  After hurricane Katrina the plan was to spend the day assembling care packages for the displaced families.  (They had to cancel that year because of a severe snow storm.)  Last year was a caroling party.  There have been cookie decorating parties.  Evenings have been spent playing holiday themed games.  Even a gift wrap night.

We usually provide a few appetizers, punch and egg nog.  Guests always brings a dish to share around, keeping the work and expense to a minimum.  And we always have a good time.  Wednesday afternoon was this year's girls' party.  The activities involved stamping gift tags and a lot of Taboo.

The ladies decided to serve egg nog, fondue and sausage bites.  Only a room full of teenagers could eat a menu like that and not worry about the scale in the morning.  ☺

Usually, I get to sit in on the fun and take pictures.  This year, Allen had to go out of town so I got to lead the boys' (and Ellie) party.  We played Sorry (I won!) ate junk food and watched a video.  Doesn't get more fun than that.

The girls must have had a good time because the only picture they took was this one.  You would think they were men or something.
I am thankful for the mess to clean after a party because it means I have been surrounded by friends.  ~Nancie J. Carmody
