Sweeter As the Years Go By

Sweeter as the years go by.
Sweeter as the years go by.
Richer, fuller, deeper.
Jesus love is sweeter.
Sweeter as the years go by.

Our church always sings this song to couples celebrating their wedding anniversary.  On December 20th, I had the honor of celebrating one more blessed year with my best friend.  As each year passes, I truly love him more than I did the one before.  As we serve the Lord side by side, pray together through trials, celebrate the blessings, welcomed each of our children, build our home, and go about the general business of what we call life, I see in him something that makes my heart swell more and more.

Which is amazing because when we were young and in love I thought I couldn't love anyone like that.  I never would have believed that it could truly become Richer, fuller and deeper each passing day.  And yet, there you have it.  As I watch him live his life as a man of honor, dignity and pride... as a man who loves the Lord and his family... as a man who truly gains his joy and delight from brightening the lives of those around him in anyway he can... truly I love him more.

His love has made me the person I am today.  He has always demonstrated for me the love, mercy, patience and compassion of our God in such a way that I have drawn closer to the Lord just by knowing him.  When I was nothing of value, broken and unlovable, he gave his heart to me and loved me.  His love made me feel beautiful and valuable.  My Allen is a steady rock as his name depicts.  He never flinches no matter how unreasonable or emotional I may get.  Instead he embraces me and tells me how much he loves my passion.

I don't know why he chose me.  Nor do I know why the Lord chose to bless me with someone so much better than I ever deserved.

But I am grateful to say Happy Anniversary to my darling one and only.  I look forward to a lifetime more of facing trials, embracing joys and making memories with you.  Truly life with you is sweeter as the years go by.
