Sweet and Spicy Popcorn Topping

After my post on popcorn Julianna E. asked me about our favorite popcorn toppings.  I promised her our recipe... back in February.  I seem to do a lot of apologizing but here it is, I am sorry it has taken me just short of forever to get this out to you. 

This recipe is my all time favorite.  We do have several others but this has the sweet, salty and a touch of spicy thrown in that satisifies us all.  Don't let the spicy deter you from trying this.  We really don't think it is spicy at all.

On Monday nights back in our first semester, we had a friend that used to pop huge bags of popcorn in her whirly popper and bring this to our Faith Bible Institute Classes.  Even though that was 9 years ago, she has sinced moved to another church and the entire class has graduated, I can still smell and taste that delicious treat. 

We eat popcorn almost every night as a bedtime snack so I like to make a very big batch of this topping and store it in quart size canning jars so we always have it ready.  I am including the single batch size so you can try it to see if you like it and for those of you who don't eat popcorn very often.

In a bowl with a wire wisk mix together:

1 Tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
dash of cayenne pepper

Toss with buttered popcorn. 

For a lower fat version you can spray popcorn with pam spray and shake in a brown bag.  Reapeat two times to fully coat.

For the big family-who-really-loves-this batch

1 cup sugar
1/3 cup chili powder
5 Tablespoons Cinnamon
4 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
