Emma's 12th Birthday

October 8th our Emma Rose turned 12 years old.  How hard to believe!  She has always had the loveliest disposition of any person I know.  With that delightful countenance she is growing into a beautiful young lady.  We daily feel blessed to have her as part of our family and as an example of the patience, kindness and compassion of Christ.

The day started with a breakfast of my Grandmother's Jewish coffee cake and pumpkin lattes.
Then we celebrated by spending the day with friends in Virginia at a fall festival sponsored by Joshua's Hands.  (You can read more about this event in this post.)  The weather was fabulous and it was so nice to be outdoors catching up as the children played and visited.
Allen and Terry have been friends for some 13 years.  We have never figured out if they fit in the grownup visiting or the kids playing description but they sure have fun whatever it is.
Uncle Frank joined us in the evening for a dinner of meatloaf, baked potatoes and green beans.
We shared our blessings and praises for Emma.  For those of you who aren't familiar with this, our family tradition is to share with the birthday celebrant something we see in their life that blesses us.  We also share a promise from scripture that we pray for them in the new year.
Sam: I hope that Emma gets wiser
Aedan: She is kind. She always tries something before she says she doesn't like it.
Nathaniel: She is always cheerful and happy about doing everything.
Ellie went on a long time about something but all we could really nail down was that she was happy for the occasion to eat birthday cake.
Uncle Frank: No matter what situation she is in, Emma is always content.
Pa: Blessing- May God continue to bless you as you seek His will and grow in His graces. Continue to seek His face and bask in the light of His grace.

Praise- I praise you for the servant's heart you exhibit toward your family and especially your younger siblings. The love that you demonstrate is a model for all of us.
KK: She has always taken the younger children, especially Ellie, under her wing and taught them all about the things of God.
Nana:  Emma has such a sweet, gentle, accepting spirit that makes everyone love her so much. Not only is it beautiful to see in her it's an encouragement and example for everyone else to aspire to. May you always keep that sweet spirit and use it to reach others. Love you, sweetie.

Mama: Blessing- Proverbs 8: 17 "I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me." Emma loves the Lord and demonstrates this throughout her life especially in the way she relates to others. Emma has sought the Lord and found Him early. First through being saved at a young age and daily as she prays and studies her Bible as soon as she wakes each morning.

Promises- Proverbs 8:18  "Riches and honor are with me, yea durable riches and righteousness."
I wish for Emma to receive the riches of love and joy deserving of a young lady strivng to live in righteousness for the Glory of God.

Dessert was a dark chocolate cake decorated by Kaitlin with a Narnia theme.
Happy birthday to our Emma Rosie, Dosie Girl!

  1. I love this tradition you celebrate with your children. I think I'm going to adopt the very same thing. Wishing Emma all our blessings on this very special day!
