Kaitlin's Baptism

Sunday morning our guest speaker could not make it to the school where our church was holding services.  Neither could the piano player.  As a matter of fact, quite a few of our church family were not there either.  The reason?  SNOW!

Saturday morning, when we saw the snow coming down, we all commented on how neat it was and how lovely and how unusual.  And then Kaitlin noted how cold it would be for the big day.

But that didn't stop this group of Baptists from moving forward as planned with Kaitlin's Baptism.  It was 39 degrees when we pulled into the parking lot around 9:30.  I don't know what the temperature was by the time everyone bundled into their coats for the Baptism itself, but we were shivering as we waited for everyone to gather outside.

Brother Dave, who was in charge of setting up the Baptistery, text us as we were leaving home and asked if we wanted the ice to remain.  He was just kidding, in case you don't know that.  He filled it with lots of nice warm water.

We do like to tease, though.  Bet you didn't know that.  And our church family likes to tease just as much as we do.  And we all like to tease Kaitlin more than anyone else.  She is such a good sport about it.

On the way into town that morning we were singing, "Shall We Gather at the River."  Our version goes like this:

Shall we gather at the river?
The beautiful, beautiful river.
Shall we gather at the river?
The beautiful river of ice.

I actually had intended to grab a cup of ice to toss in... just for Kaitlin's sake, but in the confusion, I completely forgot.
We were blessed...
... to have so many family and friends...
...join us for this very special moment in Kaitlin's life.
Even Allen's parents were able to be with us.
And the moment we've been waiting for...
You might notice, everyone heading back indoors very quick.  Moving quick is so un-Baptist, which testifies to the cold.
Ellie was so helpful gathering hymnals and putting chairs away after service.
Gracie and Emma Rose love to cart these two little girls around with them every where they go.  They had a lot of competition with so many other people wanting to play with the princesses.
After the service, the church hosted a fellowship featuring soup and salad entrees.  Delicious!
And great entertainment like Terri and Nathaniel making mutant gummy butterflies.

I will leave you with a video for those who need a little more action in their day.

Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!

  1. Congratulations to Kaitlin!!!! :D God bless you're whole family!!! :D

P.S. I'm baptist too!! I remember when I was baptized, it was december and freezing cold (for FL, where I live) and I was shivering the entire way home. XD

  2. Congratulations Kaitlin. You will have a beautiful story to tell one day about the snow GOD gave to symbolize your new life with HIM. Isn't HE awesome:)

    Hugs and prayers,
