VBC Anniversary Conference

The VBC  30th Anniversary Conference started out with a real bang Sunday morning.  When Pastor and his sister, Julie got up to sing a special, I was suddenly struck with the thought that they were both here in the beginning.  Granted, too young to remember much about it the founding of the church or its first service, but they were here just the same.  Then I looked up and noticed their mother, Miss Gayle, playing the piano.  That is when it hit me like a ton of bricks.  The overwhelming absence of our dear Pastor Purks.  Allen and I had talked about how sad it was that he would not be here celebrating with us, but I was not prepared for the flood of emotions that came with seeing his family up there without him.  It turns out, I wasn't the only one who felt that way.  As soon as they finished singing, Pastor Jonathan stood in the pulpit and said the same thing.  Our guest speaker, Dr. Wayne Hudson, reminded us that our Louis A. Purks was celebrating in a greater way than we can even imagine.

Brother Hudson is an amazing speaker with much insight from his many years in ministry.  He spoke on Esther and, "Such a Time as This."  (Julianne, I was thinking of you through the whole sermon.)  You know how sometimes the Lord just keeps reiterating something to you?  This has been a recurring theme for me lately.  It was exciting to hear yet another point of view on this topic.  He pointed out how the book of Ester can also be viewed as an allegory.  This message was very timely for our family as we faced an onslaught of persecution from Satan at the end of last week.

Last night, we reconvened for a stirring sermon on the peculiar church.  Again, Brother Hudson impressed the urgency of the time with interesting illustrations from the word, the history of the church and current events.

The service included much wonderful special music and singing as well as a video very briefly recapping some memories of the last thirty years.  We had a number of guests celebrating with us, including a couple who were present at the very first service of our church from Grace Baptist Church, the church who authorized our founding.

Pastor and Miss Katie sang this song.  Which hit the Target for how we were all feeling.

We wrapped up the evening with a pot luck and lots of fellowship.  The celebration continues tonight with another service being preached by Brother Hudson.  Please feel free to join us via the live stream.

  1. How neat! Is there a way I can watch past sermons? I've been thinking of and praying for your family since I saw Brianna's post!!

    1. Thank you for your prayers. We know the closer we walk with the Lord, the more attacks we will face. The Lord has promised us this. We try to stay focused on that. Prayers of our brethren are the number one weapon against the accuser, Amen?

Our Cyberlight group is currently setting up a more modern website. If you have been to our site, you may have noticed it has not been updated, except for adding live streaming, in many years. On the new site they will be uploading sermons for viewing. Unfortunately, the option is not available right now.

However, we do make sermons available on CD and DVD, free of charge, for anyone who is interested. I would be more than glad to send them to you if you will email me your address and choice of CD or DVD. Is there a specific sermon you were looking for or a series or is it just a general inquiry?

Glad to hear from you, my friend.

  2. I miss Louis too. There are few people that affected my life as deeply as he has. I am so looking forward to seeing him again soon.

This conference is AMAZING! I am so thankful I can be a part of it. God is working in mighty ways.

    1. Pastor Louis was, indeed, someone who loved the Lord and loved people and loved to do all he could to share the Lord with others and help them live their lives to the fullest blessings in Him. The world is richer because he walked here, because he impacted it so honestly and positively. We are all blessed to have known him and I pity those who never had the opportunity. May we all live in a way that honors his memory.

Pastor Jonathan has big shoes to fill, but is well on his way. We have been twice blessed and I hope our church will not take it for granted and will instead do something amazing for the Lord with the anointed leadership He has given us.

And yes, this conference has been an incredible blessing. Again, I hope it will stir hearts to stir up this city, town, state, country and the world for His glory. I am tired of just sitting on a chair!

Thanks for stopping by. It was a treat to see you here, my brother.
